On March 11, 2021, we filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of NAACP San Jose/ Silicon Valley, the San Jose Peace and Justice Center, and individuals who were injured by San Jose Police during racial justice demonstrations in May, 2020. When people took to the streets to protest the killing of George Floyd and police brutality against Black people, the San Jose Police attacked the crowd with dangerous impact munitions, explosive grenades, chemical weapons and clubs. The lawsuit seeks to change SJPD’s practices, interrupt the culture of white supremacy, Islamophobia and violence within the police department, and obtain redress for all who were injured or wrongly arrested. We are working with Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area and other co-counsel on this important litigation.
